Vida Ferluga

Mezzo-soprano Vida Ferluga, an Italian singer of Slovenian origin, was born on 17 March 1895 in Opčina, where she also attended primary school. She received her first musical lessons from her father Štefan Ferluga, who was a choirmaster and composer. She studied singing at the Music Conservatoire in Pesaro. She performed throughout Italy, including with Benjamin Gigli, Ester Mazzoleni, Eugenio Burzio. She was most successful in the role of Carmen by Bizet. In Milan successfully auditioned with Arturo Toscanini and was accepted by the Milanese opera house La Scala, but unfortunately died of typhoid fever in 1924, before before she could perform there. Her voice can only be heard on the recordings of Verdi's Rigoletto, where she sang the role of Maddalena. The recordings are were recorded between 1915 and 1918.
